Location

Lignano is a popular holiday resort town half-way between Venice and Trieste on the Adriatic Sea. The school campus is a self-contained residential center called Villagio Adriatico. It is in the midst of a beautiful pine wood forest and offers students everything from indoor and outdoor classrooms to accommodations, recreation rooms and a restaurant. The campus also includes a private sandy beach and numerous sporting facilities as well as a pool. The consistently beautiful weather and surroundings provide an almost limitless choice of outdoor activities to choose from including tennis, football, volleyball, beach volleyball, swimming, basketball and skating.

As an added bonus, the campus is shared with a number of Italian juniors so students will be given the chance to participate in activities with native-Italian speakers of their own age.

Program

This is a wonderfully unique program that allows international students who are studying Italian to mix with Italian students of the same age who are attending camp on the same campus! There will be approxinmately 100 students on campus each week, half of whom are Italian with the other half being from Europe, North America, Latin American and the Middle East.

Students will enjoy a morning schedule of engaging Italian lessons and an afternoon and evening schedule that is full of rich and varied activities including sports, cultural lessons and leisure time by one of the many beautiful pools or on the sandy beaches!

The program is broken into three age groupings as follows:

  1. Junior Program for 10 to 11 year olds
  2. Teenager Program for 12 to 14 year olds
  3. Europe Program for 15 to 16 year olds

Italian Lessons
The morning schedule includes 3 hours of language instruction with a mid-morning break. In total there are 20 lessons/week, 5 days/week. The lessons involve speaking, listening, reading and wiring in lively and informal small classes.  All study materials are included.

Level Placement

On the first day of the program, you will take both an oral and written placement test to determine your class placement.  There are a minimum of 4 levels offered including beginner, elementary, intermediate and advanced.  If you have no previous experience with the Italian language, you typically do not have to take this test and will automatically be placed in the beginner class.

Teachers

The teachers are all native Italian speakers and are carefully selected for their experience in teaching young learners. They bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the classroom and design each lesson to focus on speaking and listening skills with appropriate attention given to reading and writing.

Supervisors/Monitors

The program supervisors and monitors are all over 21 and have an amazing amount of energy! Their goal is to make sure that you get the most out of your program and they do this by being available 24 hours a day to answer your questions, provide guidance and look out for your overall safty and well-being.

Monitors live with students in the residence building, join them for meals and accompany them for all activities and excursions providing to a ratio of 1 monitor to every 10 students for 10 & 11 year olds and 1 monitor for every 15 students for 12 to 16 year olds.

Activities and Excursions

The activities program consists of a number of pre-arranged daily sports and leisure activities which are tailored to the interests of the respective age groups. The evening program includes after-dinner walks in town as well as visits to a junior discotheque and beach games.  Once a week, there is a full-day excursion to places such as Venice, Verona and Trieste.

During activities and excursions, students will mingle with Italian students of the same age who share the campus, providing an opportunity to practise Italian and forge new and international friendships.

Accommodation
You will stay in a room shared with two other students of the same sex and similar age. Typically, your roommates will include one Italian child/teen of the same age and another international student.  Each room is equipped with three single beds and a bathroom. Accommodation includes three hot buffet meals per day which are taken in the campus restaurant. Bedding is supplied and changed weekly but students must bring their own towels. There is also a once weekly laundry service on campus.
