2007 Summer Mature Teen Homestay Program - Malaga, Spain
Location Malaga is located on the Mediterranean coast in the heart of the warm and welcoming Andalucian region. It is a totally Spanish city where you will hear Spanish spoken at all times, will eat authentic Spanish cuisine and listen to Spanish music. It also offers one of the most beautiful climates anywhere is Spain, with hot (but not too hot!), sunny summer days and comfortable evenings - perfect for lounging at the beach during the day and strolling along the boardwalk in the evening. Malaga is home to the new Picasso Art Gallery, considered by many art critics to be the one of the most important Picasso galleries in the world. It is also well located for day trips to nearby "pueblos blancos", or mountain villages with charming white-washed buildings; giving you a feel for historic life in Southern Spain. The "La Brisa" course centre is located in a beautifully restored villa situated in the safe and picturesque neighborhood of Pedregalejo. This intimate school provides a family-like atmosphere with modern facilities and 6 well-equipped classrooms. It offers a very convenient location, across from sandy beaches and beachfront cafes and restaurants, making it a very popular school with younger students! An easy 5 minute walk takes you to the lively shopping district of El Palo and a 15 minute bus ride will take you to central Malaga. Course This program offers a high quality Spanish immersion experience at a very reasonable price. The summer mature teen homestay program has been designed spcifically for 16-20 year olds and offers 20 lessons per week of intensive Spanish instruction taught either in the morning or in the late afternoon. In addition, each week you will participate in 3 daytime activites (either AM or PM depending on your class schedule) and 1 evening activity. Daytime activites include visits to waterparks, city tours, museum visits and beach sports. Evening activites include cultural presentations, movie nights, tapas bars and beach parties. You will also enjoy 1 half-day and 1 full day excurion every 2 weeks, which takes place on the weekend and includes visits to places of interest such as Granada, Jerez and Ronda. Attending local festivals is very much a part of Spanish culture and you will have a chance to pariticipate in well-known festivals such Dia del Carmen in July and La Feria in August. Teachers All teachers are experienced, extensively trained in teaching Spanish as a second or foreign language and many have master's degrees or equivalent teaching qualifications. They are known to be firm yet fun and work hard to ensure that you will get the most out of your class time in a full-immersion environment. Accommodation You will be accomodated in warm and welcoming local homes in either single or doudle rooms. It should be noted that homestays, or host families, in Spain are not necessarily conventional family models. A number of student hosts are older, single women, many widowed or divorced, who open their homes to students as a way of supplementing their incomes. They are very professional and very friendly and go out of their way to ensure that their international "children" truly enjoy their stay in Malaga. You can expect to share your host's home with at least one or two other students from the program, which adds wonderfully to the international flavour of the program as most house-mates will be from non-English speaking countries.
